Arnold and Strauss’s Bivariate Exponential Distribution – Products and Ratios

چکیده
We derive the distributions of W = X/(X +Y ) (equivalently, X/Y ) and P = XY and the the corresponding moment properties when X and Y follow Arnold and Strauss’s bivariate exponential distribution. The expressions turn out to involve several special functions. We also provide extensive tabulations of the percentage points associated with the two distributions. These tables – obtained using intensive computing power – will be of use to practitioners of the bivariate exponential distribution.

Efficient simulation of a bivariate exponential conditionals distribution
The bivariate distribution with exponential conditionals (BEC) is introduced by Arnold and Strauss [Bivariate distributions with exponential conditionals, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 83 (1988) 522–527]. This work presents a simple and fast algorithm for simulating random variates from this density.
متن کاملOn Bivariate Generalized Exponential-Power Series Class of Distributions
In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions by compounding the bivariate generalized exponential and power-series distributions. This new class contains the bivariate generalized exponential-Poisson, bivariate generalized exponential-logarithmic, bivariate generalized exponential-binomial and bivariate generalized exponential-negative binomial distributions as specia...
متن کاملAsymmetric Univariate and Bivariate Laplace and Generalized Laplace Distributions
Alternative specifications of univariate asymmetric Laplace models are described and investigated. A more general mixture model is then introduced. Bivariate extensions of these models are discussed in some detail, with particular emphasis on associated parameter estimation strategies. Multivariate versions of the models are briefly introduced.
متن کاملTests of Hypotheses for the Parameters of a Bivariate Geometric Distribution
Many situations in real world cannot be described by a single variable. Simul taneous occurrence of multiple events warrants multivariate distributions. For instance, univariate geometric distribution can represent occurrence of failure of one component of a system. However, to study systems with several com ponents that may have different types of failures, such as twin engines of an airplane ...
متن کاملA blended model for estimating of missing precipitation data (Case study of Tehran - Mehrabad station)
Meteorological stations usually contain some missing data for different reasons. There are several traditional methods for completing data, among them bivariate and multivariate linear and non-linear correlation analysis, double mass curve, ratio and difference methods, moving average and probability density functions are commonly used. In this paper a blended model comprising the bivariate expo...
